OFFSHORE TRAINING COURSES - OPITO APPROVED BANKSMAND AND SLINGING OPERATIONS (Stage 3)

 

Brief Description

The purpose of this training and assessment is to assist employers fulfil their responsibilities after employees have completed initial (stage 1) OPITO approved Bankaman and Slinging Operations Training. After the completion of stage 1 candidates/employees should receive supervised workplace training and experience (stage 2) before a workplace assessment is conducted (stage 3) which shall establish individual competency levels. These assessments will be started by “Onsite” and can be completed under the guidance of a nominated competent person (minimum 5 years offshore experience such as Deck Foreman/Crane Operator etc.) Onsite’s Assessor will undertake final verification on completion of delegates “Log book”.

 

Course Contents

 

 

Knowledge of all relevant legislation and safe systems of work including LOLER

 

Equipment pre-use inspection

 

Safe use of lifting equipment

 

Slinging principles and terminology

 

Weight estimation

 

Hand signalling and the use of hand held radios

 

Lifting and moving loads including tubulars, unbalanced and pre-slung

 

Correct loading/unloading of containers, half heights and skips

 

Demonstrate the ability to guide the crane hook to a central position directly above a given item (using hand signals or using radio under blind lift conditions).

 
 

Inspect and sling a boxed object. Move form one position to another in full view of the crane operator (using hand signals or using radio under blind lift conditions).

 
 

Inspect and sling an unbalanced load. Move from one position to another (using hand signals or using radio under blind lift conditions)

 

Inspect and sling a bundle of drill tubulars. Move from one position to another (using hand signals). (If applicable)

 

Inspect and move a pre-slung container from one position to another (using hand signals or using radio under blind lift conditions)

 

Inspect and move a pre-slung skip from one position to another (using hand signals or using radio under blind lift conditions)

 

Inspection and assist in the transfer of persons using a billy pugh or frog. (using hand signals). (If applicable)

 

To assist in the transfer and retrieval of bulk hoses from rig/platform to and from supply vessel. (using hand signals) (If applicable)

Demonstrate the ability to work safely ensuring safe stances at all times

   

Duration

The assessment will be conducted during a workplace visit, and will normally take approximately tree - four days, but no maximum duration time is specified.

 

Pre-requisites

 

Completion of OPITO approved Banksman and Slinging Operations (Stage 1) and (Stage 2) Workplace Training and Experience.
